Blithe Spirit: Delectable adaptation of Noel Coward’s comedy fantasy in regards to a guy whose long since passed first spouse appears to haunt-and tease him in his recently wedded life. Rutherford is remarkable as Madame Arcati, the metaphysical medium. This film made an Oscar for its visual effects. Cast includes Rex Harrison, Constance Cummings, Kay Hammond, Margaret Rutherford, Hugh Wakefield, and Joyce Carey. (96 minutes, 1945)
Light Years: Conceited energized sci-fi fantasy, in regards to a prince who time-voyages into the future; he’s enclosed by characters identified Ambisextra, Transformation, Chief of the Distorted, and The Collective Voice (so you know this wasn’t made with youthful kids in mind). Cast includes Voices of Glenn Close, Christopher Plummer, Jennifer Grey, John Shea, David Johansen, Terrence Mann, and Penn and Teller. (71 minutes, 1988)
Bleak Moments: Leigh’s directing debut characteristic is a strong, intensely human drama, which charts the plight of a desolate officeworker (Raitt) who looks after her retarded sibling and wishes that her relation with a schoolteacher can develop into to matrimony. Cast includes Anne Raitt, Sarah Stephenson, Eric Allan, Julia Cappleman, Mike Bradwell, and Liz Smith. (111 minutes, 1971)
It Started With a Kiss: Airy comedy in reference to crazy Reynolds and her Army officer spouse Ford, trying to make a go of maniage. The film is set in Spain. Cast includes Glenn Ford, Debbie Reynolds, Eva Gabor, Fred Clark, Edgar Buchanan, and Harry Morgan. (104 minutes, 1959)
Foxfire: An adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel in reference to 4 high school gals who form a clique while an enigmatic lady drifter comes to town. The cast tries however they’re finished in by a terrible script that plays like an R-rated After School Particular. Cast includes Hedy Burress, Angelina Jolie, Jenny Lewis, Jenny Shimizu, Sarah Rosenberg, Peter Facinelli, Streak Mihok, Cathy Moriarty, Richard Beymer, and John Diehl. (102 minutes, 1996)
The Mark: Whitman is phenomenal in his depiction of spiritually busted sex offender who has served his time and now desires to make new start. Cast includes Stuart Whitman, Maria Schell, Rod Steiger, Brenda De Hanzie, Maurice Denham, Donald Wolfit, Paul Rogers, and Donald Houston. (127 minutes, 1961)
The Last Time I Saw Archie: Webb’s lone try at comedy is less ludicrous than some of his more earnest films; a shame, since William Bowers’ script-based on his own Army experiences had genuine potential, and Mitchum pleasantly underplays as the con guy. By the way, the genuine Archie Chamber sued for invasion of privacy. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Jack Webb, Martha Hyer, France Nuyen, Louis Nye, Richard Arlen, Don Tangles, Joe Flynn, and Robert Strauss. (98 minutes, 1961)
