We tend to spend a lot of time in the kitchen but it is one of the most dangerous places in the home and at work so it is important that we know how to deal with certain scenarios. A number of potential accidents can occur so we need to take certain precautions to prevent some of the more common accidents.
Some of the biggest risks are those having the potential to cause burns. Always keep a cover on your stove tops, if they are being used or not, as they can remain hot for some time. Steam burns too, can be caused by microwaved food so be sure to remove covering from any food carefully and have it facing away from you. If you injure your hand, run it under a cold tap for ten minutes and then cover it in a bandage with lavender water applied to it. You would be wise to seek medical assistance for larger burns.
Sharp objects such as knives have an element of risk about them. Certainly, they should be kept out of the reach of children. Chopping food also carries with it, an air of caution, and even more so when it is wet. You don’t want your hands slipping when chopping or doing anything which requires sharp utensils, so make sure that they are dry. If you carve and peel, do it away from your self in order to minimise damage should you slip. Be careful too, when using hand graters and food processors.
You need to be as prepared as possible should an injury occur so have a first-aid kit at hand. If you do need to use a band aid, clean your cut beforehand. Towels and clean bandages will be needed for larger cuts. You will want to stop the bleeding as quickly as possible so the wound will require some pressure applied to it. It is best to have a number of bandages at hand as you will need to replace any that get soaked through.
A wet floor can cause all sorts of havoc. If you have pets, then it is even more of a potentially dangerous scenario so keep them out of a wet kitchen and feed them outside if you have to. Also, don’t carry hot food or sharp objects on a slippery floor.
